Pre-party food: A NECESSITY.

I went to an event a couple weeks ago and made a major mistake: I didn’t eat first. There were plenty of hors d’oeuvres going around, but nothing vegan and I was STARVING by the end of it. I swear it made it harder to socialize because i was getting hangry…

I usually have a great rule of thumb to prevent this (even though I didn’t do too great at following it) but I wanted to share it with you so that you can avoid the feeling of hanger or angst at a party!

Before going to a nice event, always eat something! Here’s the key: something small but dense. Here are my favorites:

1) Cooked veggies with a little rice (go for things like: steamed carrots, cauliflower, or broccoli)

2) Walnuts or almonds

3) Clean protein bars (like @sakaralife bars or @larabars)

4) Green Smoothie

5) Cucumber tomato salad – AKA the most perfect light snack. Just chop up some cucumbers and tomatoes and mix with a little pepper and voila!

This is a smart idea even if the party is serving hors d’oeuvres that are to your dietary preferences. Try to think of hors d’oeuvres as perfect for tasting, but not filling you up. Not only do you never know what you’re going to get (or not get), usually they’re pretty unhealthy and things like this can add up (especially around the holidays or summer time when there’s a lot of gatherings). But if you go to a party starving and they’re passing out food; you’re going to grab for anything. Be prepared and go into the party half full :)
