How Self Talk Can Affect Your Body

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you may have seen me post this quote:

“Choose your thoughts wisely. Your body is listening.”

I’ve been thinking a lot about that and want to dive a little deeper into what that ^^ means.

We all (for the most part) know that our mentality and state of mind plays a major role in your health. It’s why when you feel stressed or angry your blood pressure goes up. It also explains why depression and sadness leads to fatigue, low energy, and often times body aches and physical pain.

The words we choose to speak to ourselves can have a huge impact on us. If you constantly put yourself down, call yourself names and judge yourself, you’ll eventually start to believe those things about yourself, even if they’re not true. This is called negative self talk, and it can have a huge impact on your happiness, success, and overall wellbeing.

Chronic mental stress has been shown to decrease your lifespan (by shortening you telomeres, which are the ends of DNA. Currently, the biggest biohacking trend is learning how to lengthen telomeres to increase longevity).

I have learned over the years that therapy, meditation, working out, being with family and friends, and doing things that make you happy are all ways to combat stress and anxiety.

The main point is that wellness is so much more than what you eat. What you think, how you feel, and what you say matter.

Working out helps your outer body get strong, and eating healthy gives your inner body the support it needs to constantly heal and bring you back to balance. But without the right state of mind, the rest of your ecosystem will be off. And it may not show itself now, but after years of build up it can manifest as chronic disease, cancers, digestive issues and more.

I think now more than ever we’re understanding the importance of mindset and inner peace. We should focus just as much on this as all other aspects of wellness. I suggest mediation (take a course – can’t recommend it enough, it was game changing for me), herbal tea, and spending time with people who make you smile😊

Work hard for your happiness, the little things and big things. Whether it’s going a different route to work because it’s more scenic and makes you happy, or not hanging out with people who make you unhappy, just chip away at it because it’s the most important thing 🙌🏼💗
