Healthy Tips To Prevent Cough And Cold

With everything going on right now, I thought I would share my tips on how to prevent cough, cold, and flu! While we should not panic, this is meant to be proactive prevention :) Every little bit helps👏🏼  I’ve summarized this video below:

Difference between the common cold & flu

Common cold: milder symptoms that come about over the course of a couple days

Flu: symptoms are more severe and come about quickly

Here are some tips you can implement as soon as you start feeling sick

All of these things will help you to boost your own immunity!

Foods:

  1. Sweet peppers: so high in vitamin c (more than an orange)
  2. Broccoli: high in vitamin c
  3. Lemon: high in vitamin c (great to put in hot water – see below why liquids are important!)
  4. Liquids (broth, herbal tea, etc.): they flush out phlegm and bacteria
  5. Ginger root: anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties
  6. Manuka honey: antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits
  7. Garlic & onion: antibacterial and antiviral
  8. Apples: (or any fruits and veggies) are great to keep you healthy

Supplements:

  1. Zinc: helps reduce how long a cold lasts; research shows that it can stop mucus build up at the molecular level
  2. Oregano oil: antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties (use it for 10 days max because it is so strong)

Foods to avoid

  1. Dairy: this causes mucus and phlegm build up
  2. Processed foods: processed foods contain chemicals which are hard for our body to recognize; it’s best to save our body’s energy for fighting off illness and boosting immunity rather than trying to digest foreign chemicals/substances

Hope this is helpful :)
